Low Audio Volume on Video Recording: A Bugging Issue with Google Pixel 9 Pro XL

Date: March 22, 2023

Google Pixel 9 Pro XL users are in a state of distress as many are experiencing a frustrating issue with their devices – low audio volume on video recording. This annoying bug has left many frustrated, seeking solutions to resolve this critical issue.

What’s Going On?

Multiple users have reported encountering extremely low audio volume while recording videos using their Pixel 9 Pro XL. This is not just a minor inconvenience but a significant problem, making the video recording experience frustrating and near-useless.

When Does It Happen?

This audio issue seems to occur randomly, leaving users perplexed as to when it will strike again. It doesn’t appear to be device-dependent, as the problem has been reported across different Pixel 9 Pro XL units.

What’s Been Said?

"I was in the middle of recording a video with friends, and suddenly the audio volume became so low I had to yell to be heard!" said Sarah, a Pixel 9 Pro XL user.

"I’ve tried restarting the phone, cleaning the microphone, and even updating the operating system, but nothing seems to work," mentioned John, another frustrated user.

Possible Fixes

Google has issued an official statement assuring that a fix is on its way, but in the meantime, users are searching for temporary solutions to alleviate this annoyance.

Here are a few possible workarounds to try:

  1. Recording through a third-party app: Download alternative video recording apps to see if they don’t exhibit the same issue.
  2. Internal microphone adjustments: Go to Settings > Sound > Internal microphone > Default and try adjusting the default audio source.
  3. Screen mirroring: Try using screen mirroring features to record audio via an external device.

Why Is This Happening?

Though Google has not explicitly stated the reason behind this issue, some speculate that a recent software update or an underlying issue in the device’s audio processing algorithm could be the culprit.

When Can We Expect a Fix?

As reported by Google, a fix for this audio issue is imminent, but an exact timeline for its release has not been disclosed.

I am having the same issue as the following thread:

https://support.google.com/pixelphone/thread/218056044/mic-sounds-low-muffled-when-recording-video-with-google-camera-app?hl=en

Basically my sound recorder app can capture perfect audio recording, but the audio volume from video recording using the camera app is very low. I wanted to test it with other camera apps, so I installed the Open Camera app and change the audio source to default audio source seems working, but I definitely don't want to use Open Camera as my regular camera app…

I have also tried basically all the solutions that I can find online (like clearing cache, reinstalling app, restarting, flip-flopping permissions, etc.), I also have reached out to the Google Chat support. One chat support recommended me to send phone for repair, but I mean, it is brand new phone that I got from Google and only use it for less than 10 days!!! I hope it is not hardware issue…

My last resort is to pay a visit to Google Store and let them check what happened. Will update again if I got some good news…
