Birmingham City Sign Defensive Midfielder Tomoki Iwata from Celtic on 3-Year Deal
Birmingham, England – Birmingham City Football Club is thrilled to announce the signing of highly-rated defensive midfielder Tomoki Iwata from Celtic FC on a three-year deal, subject to international clearance.
The 25-year-old Japanese international has put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Blues, becoming the club’s third summer signing following the arrivals of midfielder Ryan Woods and striker Troy Deeney.
Iwata, who has been capped 14 times by Japan, joins Birmingham City from Scottish Premiership giants Celtic, where he made 54 appearances and scored one goal. His impressive performances in the Scottish top-flight earned him a reputation as one of the most promising young defensive midfielders in the country.
"We’re delighted to welcome Tomoki to the club," said Birmingham City Manager, Aitor Karanka. "He’s a talented young player with a lot of potential, and we believe he’ll be a great addition to our squad. His experience in the Scottish Premiership and his international caps will be invaluable to us as we look to build a strong team for the upcoming season."
Iwata expressed his excitement at joining Birmingham City, saying: "I’m thrilled to be joining Birmingham City and can’t wait to get started. The club has a rich history and a passionate fan base, and I’m looking forward to being a part of it. I’m confident that I can make a positive impact on the team and help us achieve our goals."
