This is something I've been discussing with my parents for a while now but I don't think I'll ever convince them, as they watch a lot of Fox News. But I'm just about completely done with the US at this point. To let a rapist tyrant become president and then to let him run again is just completely disgusting and I feel ashamed to still live in this country.

I'm looking to go somewhere where I don't have to constantly see articles everyday about a presidential candidate saying another racist thing or hearing about more women he raped. It's sad that we're at this point but here we are.

I've been researching on Thailand and Vietnam a bit and they seem like great places. Also they have a lot of beaches and good food so that would be hard to beat.

For South America, I've been looking into Buenos Aires and Costa Rica. Lots of good food in both. For Argentina, I'd have close proximity to other places to travel like Brazil, Chile, etc which would be nice. And Costa Rica has beautiful beaches and great weather.

Of these locations, what would likely work the best for me? I love to explore food, I want a good cost of living, and a friendly population without the constant toxic racist cesspool like what is present in America.

  1. Stay off the internet and you won’t have to move anywhere. I go to the US all the time, and see very little actual political malice taking place in people’s day to day lives.

People always say “Canadians are so nice” but I’ve found that Americans are just as nice, sometimes even nicer.

If you think regular people care about this stuff then chances are you’re spending too much time on the internet, and not enough time with real people.

    Good luck.

P.S Digital Nomading isn’t a way to avoid online culture wars because it won’t keep you off the internet. If anything, it’ll keep you more on the internet.

    EDIT: typo

  2. You’re considering moving to places rife with corruption. You may find life more agreeable there because you are an outsider and are somewhat sheltered or immune from local problems. But their systems are not inherently better, but are likely much worse. Maybe try Western Europe or East Asia but as an American you will never be free from American politics or news media. It follows you anywhere you go. There are a million reasons to move abroad but politics is not a big one unless you have money to establish yourself somewhere like the Netherlands or Germany, etc.

  3. If you think the US is racist, I have news for you. All of Latin America is infinitely more classist and racist than the US. Being as white as possible means *everything* in Latin America. Cannot comment on Asia, as I haven’t spent that much time there.

  4. “…To let a rapist tyrant become president…”

“…Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer for then-Sen. Joe Biden who recently accused him of sexual assault, told Megyn Kelly in an exclusive interview that Biden said, “I want to f— you,” during the alleged assault in 1993…”

  5. My experience in developing countries is that there still is racism, sexism, and classism constantly in daily life…you’ll just be apart from it as you’ll be living in an expat bubble, which is sort of perpetuating the type of classism you’re fed up with, no?

If you truly wanted to live in a more egalitarian society that has better rights for all citizens then going to another first world country would probably align more with your values.

  6. When you travel, you’ll read more American news than you do now. I didn’t even read my home countries news at all until I emigrated, then it became a way to keep an eye on home.

And you’ll only read more of the same biased horse shit you’ve already been deranged by.

And if you’re sick of racism and classism, you’re in for a rude awakening, you think America has a monopoly on that? You think America is the worst? Wait to you realize it’s among the least.

  7. “…see articles everyday about a presidential candidate saying another racist thing…”

…Slate 2/9/20: “…At a campaign event in Hampton, New Hampshire, on Sunday, presidential candidate Joe Biden jokingly referred to a young woman who asked him a question as a “**lying, dog-faced pony soldier**,” according to the Washington Post. There’s video of the incident, which began when 21-year-old student Madison Moore asked Biden to explain his poor showing in the Iowa caucuses…”

…to wit: dog-faced pony soldier is a racist pejorative – “…Dog faced pony soldier is referencing an Indian scout (dog faced) pony soldier (U.S. Cavalry). It is not just any Cavalry recruit, but instead an Indian helping the Cavalry…”

  8. Tired of racism/classism and wants to move to Latin America… I don’t think you know where you intend on going my friend. Further, misogyny is rampant in Latin America.

If you are moving to avoid racism and misogyny and you want to go to Argentina, Brazil, Chile, etc — then maybe you are moving to the wrong places. Also, depending on your race (which you don’t mention) it can be worse. If you are black in Asia that’s definitely going to affect your experience. If you pay attention to politics, look at some of the stuff the Argentinian President Milei has said. He’s not exactly a mild mannered politician.

  9. It will become apparent that many other countries are also racist, many times to an even greater extent.

I think it would be safe to say that the grass isn’t always greener.

To get a more left ward leaning country, I’d just give it a Google. Granted, their left leaning might not be your left leaning style.

Neither SEA or SA will have what you want.

  10. I’ll skip over the sidebar – ppl get triggered and many who don’t actually live in US don’t see the systemic racism and issues (and some who do live there dont see it either) –

Your issue will be length of stay. Most are 90 days and bye – some can reset by a simple weekend away. Some not. Language will be another major hurdle.

If you just want out and are looking for some more alone time and not integrating into that new city fully, any of your choices would work well.

If you actually want to integrate most of your choices will be harder.

Also are you looking more for a city life or rural life –

And I am very encouraged by the last month and think orange asshat will lose big time to Harris. (Fingers crossed)

  11. If you are looking for woke liberal locations, it may surprise you that many places in the USA are the best choices for that, especially most big cities. Have you lived in California?

Canada is also very liberal. Their government froze the bank accounts of truck drivers and likes to impose high taxes.

Australia is also a good location for left views, as they put anti-vaxxers in quarantine camps and kept citizens (especially those who were conservative or anti-vax) from returning to the country.

The UK might also work, as they arrest people for hate speech and sharing offensive memes or insults online.

In my experience, people in SE Asia usually hold more traditional views on family and social issues and are not as liberal or progressive as woke Americans.

Argentina is going in the libertarian direction, which is not for your situation.

  12. Ignorant post.
Checking in from SEA, I think the Asians do a pretty good job of keeping such matters out and off of publicity, social media, outspoken opinion, public displays, etc… but Asians, like many other monoethnic societies are in practice more racist and classist. People with dark skin, never mind outright of African decent, are regularly excluded from work and social communities. Not to mention in between other Asians… And when it happens, you don’t have any recourse, no law is going to reconcile your grievances. And then there is the Ageism, and gender issues…

You’re just an alarmist who isn’t going to be happy anywhere with your attitude
