Nobody denies that there have been millions of illegal border crossings every year for years now. But the expert estimates of the total undocumented population has been 11 million literally since pre-9/11. This is the number that continues to be cited by mainstream news outlets and academics.

The 11 million estimate comes from think tanks. Both sides (and their respective think tanks) have a vested interest in importing low wage illegal laborers. You would have to be resnarded to believe 11 million.
