Firm fined £3.2m after worker’s huge pylon shock

A UK-based energy company has been fined £3.2 million after a worker suffered a severe electrical shock while working on a pylon site.

The incident occurred in August 2019 when the 34-year-old worker, who has not been named, was conducting maintenance on a high-voltage pylon in Scotland. Despite wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), the worker received a massive electrical shock, leaving them critically injured.

An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the company, which has been identified as ScottishPower, failed to ensure that the worker was properly trained and equipped to work on the pylon.
