California Governor Blocks Plan to Provide $150,000 Home Loans to Illegal Immigrants

Newsom also expressed concerns over the potential for fraud and abuse, stating: "I am deeply troubled by the lack of adequate safeguards to prevent fraudulent claims and ensure that these resources are used for their intended purpose."
Reactions to the Veto
The veto has sparked widespread criticism from immigrant rights advocates, who argue that the program would have provided a vital lifeline to those who are struggling to make ends meet.
"Governor Newsom’s veto is a devastating blow to the thousands of immigrant families who were counting on this program to achieve the American dream," said Carlos Marquez, executive director of the California Immigrant Policy Center. "We urge the Governor to reconsider his decision and work with the Legislature to find a solution that benefits all Californians."
