Experts Criticize X for Pro-Russian Propaganda Campaign

The social media platform X is facing criticism from experts over its failure to curb a pro-Russian propaganda campaign aimed at influencing public opinion and stirring up anti-Ukraine sentiment.

The so-called "doppelganger campaign" involves fake Twitter accounts created to impersonate real individuals, spreading pro-Russian messages and misinformation on the platform. These accounts have been posting messages urging people to boycott Ukrainian products and condemning the current German government.

According to experts, the campaign has been largely successful in creating a hostile and divisive environment, with some users becoming increasingly vocal about their support for Russia. The fake accounts have even been creating fake news websites and videos to further fuel the fire.

"X has been complicit in allowing this propaganda campaign to spread misinformation and manipulate public opinion," said Dr. Maria Gritsyk, a leading expert in disinformation and propaganda. "This is not the first time X has faced criticism for its lack of action on this issue."

The "doppelganger campaign" is widely believed to be a strategic effort by Russian actors to undermine public trust in Ukrainian and Western institutions, while also supporting pro-Russian figures and ideas.

In light of the criticism, some experts have called on Elon Musk, the CEO of X, to take action to address the issue and prevent similar campaigns from taking place in the future. However, so far, X has not made a public statement on the issue.

This is not the first time X has been accused of allowing disinformation and propaganda to spread on its platform. In recent years, the platform has faced numerous criticisms over its handling of fake news, hate speech, and extremist content.

But if you want to make us mad… please! Be my guest. How could that go wrong?!
