Breaking News: Should You Buy or Wait When Working at Events?
As event professionals continue to navigate the ever-changing landscape of live events, one question has become a constant source of debate: should you buy or wait when it comes to essential equipment and technology?
Recent studies have shown that nearly 70% of event professionals are upgrading their technology and equipment in response to the growing demands of live events. With new innovations and advancements emerging constantly, it’s no wonder that decision-makers are finding it challenging to determine when to pull the trigger and invest in the latest solutions.
So, what should you consider when deciding whether to buy or wait when working at events?
The Buy Option:
- Provides immediate benefits, such as increased efficiency, improved image quality, and enhanced client satisfaction
- Can increase your competitive edge, particularly in the eyes of discerning clients and attendees
- May provide a long-term cost savings, as you’ll avoid the ongoing costs associated with renting equipment
The Wait Option:
- Allows you to wait and see if new technologies emerge, which may offer improved performance or functionality
- May provide the opportunity to gather more user feedback and reviews before committing to a purchase
- Can help you avoid upfront costs, giving you the flexibility to reallocate those funds to other areas of your business
Event Professionals Weigh In:
"I think it’s essential to consider the lifespan of the equipment and technology you’re investing in," says Sarah Thompson, events manager at Thompson Events. "If it’s going to be obsolete in two years, I’d rather wait and invest in something that will keep up with the latest innovations."
"However, if you need the equipment immediately to complete a project, buying can be the way to go," adds Mark Davis, owner of Davis Events. "You have to weigh the benefits against the cost and consider whether the ROI will be worth it."
The Bottom Line:
Ultimately, the decision to buy or wait comes down to your specific event needs, budget, and goals. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of each approach, and make an informed decision that’s right for your business.

hi fellow redditors, would like to ask for your two cents here. I am currently working in events agency but I have no transport (pretty dumb I know), so I am saving to buy a car for myself as events involve a lot of going here and there. However, I am stuck in what car to proceed…
Concerns:
– I am only looking for something quite budget-friendly but not overly old since I will be travelling a lot for events, so something that is within a budget of 50k+- because I plan to go the "buy cheap first, then go for better car later" route, but I am pretty concerned with second hand cars…
-
I would not mind going for first-hand Proton Saga and Perodua Myvi, in fact, I actually settled on 1st hand Proton Saga first but then there are news of MC3 coming out, then I moved on to Perodua Myvi, THEN ther are news of Myvi 2025 coming out… It'd be pretty dumb to purchase now if there are already new models coming out not so far later

I honestly wouldn't mind trying to stay car-less but it's a bit of struggle for me doing events
So I am hoping if redditors can chime in and give me some suggestions, whether I should just purchase a second hand car and risk it, purchase 1st hand models of saga or myvi now since it wouldn't really matter, or wait abit longer for the new models?

Getting new one will be best option, second hand ones you’ll need to prepare extra cash for parts that you’ll find out spoilt after using it. As for new models, if you currently have means to travel easily then yes, can wait for newer models if its a foreseeable near future, if not then just get current models that is likely with some discount.
Ask ur boss can company car or not?
