"Fist of the Blue Sky" Under Fire: Fans Speaks Out Against the Foul-Mouthed Martial Arts Game

Released earlier this year, "Fist of the Blue Sky" was expected to be a knockout hit, bringing a fresh take on the classic martial arts game genre. However, a wave of backlash from fans has left the game in a precarious position, begging the question: what’s behind the disdain?
After digging into the comments, reviews, and online discussions, a clear pattern has emerged: fans are utterly dissatisfied with the game’s content. Here’s what’s got everyone steamed:
- Lack of Story Progression: Many players expected a more engaging narrative with meaningful character development. Unfortunately, the game’s storytelling feels stagnant, with plotlines failing to resonate or keep players invested.
- Unbalanced Fight Mechanics: Critics argue that the combat system is shallow and poorly designed, leaving players frustrated with cheap moves, lack of defense, and repetitive animations.
- Underwhelming Difficulty: Despite claims of intense action, some fans argue that the game is more tedious than challenging, allowing for an excessive reliance on grinding and minimal strategy.
"It’s like they sacrificed substance for style," rants gaming YouTuber, EpicJen, who recently called out the game on their channel. "The aesthetics are sleek, but gameplay-wise, it’s as shallow as a kiddie pool."
Another common critique revolves around the game’s tone and representation. "The excessive use of expletives is off-putting," states prominent gaming influencer, CtrlAltWin, adding, "The lack of diverse character designs and LGBTQ+ representation also left me feeling uneasy."
Developers, we hear you!
It’s crucial for gamers and game developers to collaborate and communicate more effectively, taking feedback on board and incorporating constructive criticism into the development process.
As a result of this backlash, we can’t help but wonder if "Fist of the Blue Sky" will continue to suffer under the weight of fan displeasure or if a new patch will arrive to rescue the game from the red.

I haven't read it, only bits I have seen were from LR for the recent collab

I personally have liked it, but it has quite a slow start (the first interesting villain, who puts up a decent fight appears only after a while).
And the slow pacing of the publication (since every bunch of chapters there was a long pause, at least in Italy) was also to blame. It made the story feel very slow (I gave it a re-read and it flows nicely).
Another element may be the anime, who suffered from quite bad animations.
It isn’t. I like it and I know plenty of people who do like it.
If you expect it to be just like Hnk, you’ll be obviously disappointed. But it’s a very interesting manga, and here in Japan it had a good following (it lasted longer than Hnk!)
I’m not sure what you mean; I loved Fist of the Blue Sky to some extent a bit more than HnK. It was more of a true blue martial arts with the mafia and leading a gang. Don’t get me wrong, HnK is amazing too, but the apocalypse theme never quite clicked with me
Is definitely not. Most people who actually read it love it, and some even hold it in as high (or even higher) regard as the original series.
The anime adaptations were complete dogshit though, and that is undeniable.
