In the spirit of Friday the 13th, the highly anticipated horror film "Speak No Evil" is generating buzz among fans and critics alike. With its eerie atmosphere and unsettling plot, the movie is poised to scare up a mild audience on its opening weekend. Let’s take a look at the ticket sales tracking from September 9th to September 12th to see how it’s faring.

Ticket Sales Tracking:

According to early reports, "Speak No Evil" is raking in an impressive $1.2 million from 1,200 theaters, with a respectable $1,000 per theater average. While this figure may not be a blockbuster hit, it’s still a promising start for the horror film.

Early Reviews:

Early reviews are praising the movie’s tense atmosphere and creepy plot, with many calling it a "slow-burning" horror film that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Some critics have noted that the movie’s pacing is deliberate and calculated, which may not be to everyone’s taste.

Audience Reaction:

Social media is buzzing with fans expressing their excitement and terror as they watch the movie. Many are praising the film’s ability to build tension and create a sense of unease, with some even claiming it’s one of the scariest movies they’ve seen in recent years.

Friday the 13th Release:

The timing of the movie’s release on Friday the 13th is undoubtedly a strategic move to capitalize on the holiday’s reputation for bad luck. Horror fans are eagerly anticipating the movie, and the eerie atmosphere surrounding the release is only adding to the excitement.

Will it be a Box Office Hit?

While early reports are promising, it’s still unclear whether "Speak No Evil" will become a box office hit. The movie faces stiff competition from other major releases, including the much-anticipated "Dune" sequel. However, if the early buzz is any indication, "Speak No Evil" may be a dark horse contender in the horror genre.

Conclusion:

"Speak No Evil" is off to a solid start, and horror fans are eagerly anticipating the movie’s release. With its tense atmosphere and creepy plot, the film is poised to scare up a mild audience on its opening weekend. While the box office numbers are still uncertain, one thing is clear: "Speak No Evil" is a must-see for fans of the horror genre.

Hi,

Last week, the Fall season kicked off with Beetlejuice Beetlejuice almost breaking the September weekend. In almost better news, BB was able to soar past my $8.83M Thursday prediction. Sadly, Friday was not able to keep up as actuals fell behind my $33.37M expectation. While the legacy sequel did not quite hit my lofty $44.95M Pre+Thurs+Fri guesstimate, this is still a tremendous opening for WB. Even if the international markets are not matching the strong domestic side, this is still a successful outing for a $100M budgeted comedy for a studio that was in much need of a hit. With good word of mouth and over a month until Halloween, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice should have no problem sticking around and being a spooky go-to for families and adults

Per old Hollywood tradition, if there is a Friday the 13th on the calendar, there must be a new horror film. This time, Blumhouse is stepping up to the plate, again, with Speak No Evil. In a year where non-IP horror has not been entirely successful, Blumhouse is hoping to capitalize off of James McAvoy's star presence, the good will of the 2022 Danish original, and the Friday the 13th marketing trope. While audiences may be tired of the spoilery trailers, it still gives them a more "typical" alternative to one of the biggest films of the year, a horror film nonetheless. As a smaller scale, Blumhouse thriller, we will use Night Swim as a comp.  I have recorded ticket sales for this Thursday and Friday for 3 Days. The green bars are how much ticket sales increased from day to day.

To not much surprise, the fans are not rushing out for Thursday, but that's okay. Over the week, ticket sales have fluctuated in pace with some days even dropping. Still, the final day walk-ups have been favorable. At this rate, SPN is talking up a $2.30M Thursday compared to NS. For a non-IP driven title during the school season, this is not that much of a surprise. Even the demand is just okay with theater capacities at M: 1.74% and EH: 6.73%. Per normal horror movie trends, Theater 1 is showing stronger demands, but Theater 2 is not far behind, signifying a healthy walk up audience. With NS having just as many showings, the theater capacities were not as strong with M: 1.71% and EH: 2.13%, hinting at a stronger demand for SPN with the possibility for stronger walk-ups. Blumhouse has most definitely seen better outings, but with no need for a weekday rush and very positive word of mouth about to spread, we can see a strong audience surge throughout the weekend.

Clearly, this is where the audiences have been heading. With healthy growing ticket sales throughout the week, audiences seem to be saving the latest Blumhouse freight for the weekend. Compared to NS, SPN is aiming towards a $7.59M Friday. Now, that's more like it. Whether it is just the audience waiting for the weekend or the Friday the 13th novelty actually being effective, Blumhouse will take this win. Even the theater capacities are at a healthier pace with M: 1.88% and EH: 5.38%. Mostly thanks to the limited showtimes, these are very healthy demands. This is more than double than NS, which had capacities of M: 0.37% and EH: 2.03%, once again signifying a strong chance for walk-ups. Hopefully, the positive word of mouth will help this number grow and last throughout the weekend.

Overall, this will bring Speak No Evil to an Thur+Fri opening of $9.89M. After the year not only Blumhouse has had, but horror itself, this is a much needed small victory for the genre. If these numbers hold, then SPN should reach $23M for the weekend. Once again, if the positive word of mouth continues to spread, this will be a profitable outing for the horror studio with another small $15M price tag. While there might be a lot of incoming screen competition in the upcoming weeks, Speak No Evil should have the horror market all to itself for at least a month. Until then, enjoy your hopefully leggy run.

I have taken some suggestions to help make this post better. Please comment if you have anymore!

TL;DR:

Thursday: $2.30M

Friday: $7.59M

Opening Day: $9.89M

  1. Any number over 15M will be good for Blumhouse. This particular year is such a horrible year for them for both box office and the quality of their movies.

I am glad that Speak No Evil, being their best reviewed title, is the highest grossing movie for them
