Space News
Iran has successfully launched its latest research satellite, Chamran-1, into orbit, marking a significant milestone for the country’s space program.
Iran Launches Chamran-1 Satellite
The Chamran-1 satellite was launched into orbit at 8:00 PM local time (3:30 UTC) from the Imam Khomeini Spaceport in Semnan Province, northern Iran. The satellite was launched aboard a Safir SL-26 rocket, a type of launch vehicle developed by Iran’s Aerospace Industries Organization.
Purpose of the Satellite
The Chamran-1 satellite is a research satellite designed to collect data on the Earth’s atmosphere, magnetosphere, and ionosphere. It is equipped with advanced sensors and instruments to study the upper atmosphere and to gather data on solar radiation, cosmic rays, and space weather.
Key Features of Chamran-1
The Chamran-1 satellite has a mass of 113 kilograms and is equipped with a payload of 21 kilograms. It has a dimensions of 1.8 meters in length and 1.2 meters in diameter. The satellite is powered by solar panels and has a communication system to transmit data back to Earth.
Significance of the Launch
The successful launch of the Chamran-1 satellite is a significant achievement for Iran’s space program, marking the country’s fifth satellite launch in the past six years. The launch demonstrates Iran’s capability to develop and launch satellites independently, and showcases the country’s expertise in space technology.
