Astronauts Reveal What Life is Like on the International Space Station – and How They Deal with ‘Space Smell’
As we continue to explore the vastness of space, astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have been sharing their experiences and insights into what life is like in orbit. From the breathtaking views to the unusual challenges, astronauts are giving us a glimpse into their daily lives.
In a recent interview, NASA astronauts Christina Koch and Nick Hague shared their thoughts on living and working on the ISS. When asked about the most surprising aspect of living in space, Koch said, "It’s the smell. It’s like nothing you’ve ever smelled before. It’s a combination of the air being recycled, the equipment, and the food we eat. It’s definitely a unique experience."
Hague added, "We do have a ‘space smell’ that’s different from anything on Earth. It’s a bit of a mixture of burnt plastic and a metallic taste. But, you know, it’s not all bad. It’s just part of the experience."
Despite the unusual smell, astronauts have adjusted to life on the ISS. They spend their days conducting scientific experiments, maintaining the station, and exercising to stay physically fit.
Koch explained, "We have a pretty rigorous schedule, but we also have a lot of downtime. We use that time to relax, read, and watch movies. We even have a small exercise room where we can do yoga or run on the treadmill."
Hague added, "It’s amazing how quickly you adjust to life in space. When you first arrive, everything is new and overwhelming. But after a few days, you start to feel more comfortable and find your routine."
As astronauts continue to live and work on the ISS, we are learning more about the challenges and benefits of space travel. From the incredible views to the unique experiences, life on the ISS is truly out of this world.
