Garmin Weather Location Info Disappears from Devices Worldwide, Leaving Thousands of Users in the Dark

[Date: 24th February 2023]

In a shocking development, Garmin, a renowned GPS navigation company, has announced that its weather location information service has gone missing from its devices worldwide, leaving thousands of users affected.

The sudden disappearance of the weather location information, which was a key feature of Garmin’s devices, has left many users searching for alternative solutions to plan their routes and stay ahead of inclement weather. The issue has been reported by users across the globe, with many taking to social media to express their frustration and disappointment.

"It’s unbelievable that Garmin can’t even provide a simple weather forecast," said a frustrated user on Twitter. "I rely on that feature to plan my bike rides and now I’m stuck in the dark."

Garmin has issued an official statement acknowledging the issue, stating that it is working to resolve the matter as soon as possible.

"We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the temporary unavailability of our weather location information service," said the statement. "We are working tirelessly to resolve the issue and restore the service to our users as soon as possible."

The cause of the issue is still unclear, but Garmin has stated that it is investigating the matter to determine the root cause and prevent similar issues in the future.

Meanwhile, users are being left to fend for themselves, using alternative methods to plan their routes and stay informed about the weather. Some are using third-party apps to get their weather information, while others are relying on manual checks of weather forecasts online.

The sudden loss of the weather location information service has raised concerns about the reliability of Garmin’s devices and the impact on users who rely on this feature.

Saw this someplace – anyone else heard this?

“Bad news.

Some of you after firmware update of your watch come across that many watchfaces stopped to work.

Fast fix: remove "Location" data-field or set up OpenWeatherMap instead of Garmin Weather, it makes them working again.

Bad news is that this is not temporary bug of the firmware but the intentional deprecation of this functionality by Garmin. It won't work again in the future, most probably.

If you still have an older firmware on your watch which still works with "Location" data-field with Garmin Weather and you really need it – DO NOT update your firmware.”

  1. If it’s true, that’s sad.

Fortunately you can use the one from either owm or wfb.

WFB has the geo reverse lookup service current only available to premium members, but I think I may release the feature free for everyone.

  2. Thanks Josh. On the faces I sell I often use the OWM version but like to have a similar version in Garmin Weather for an option. Some people just can’t figure out OWM. Your lookup is great and is my preferred option, but I only use my Garmin IQ versions which I cannot use that on since I sell them.
