WISCONSIN BOY SAVES FATHER’S LIFE BY SHOOTING MAULING BEAR
GREEN LAKE, WI – A 12-year-old boy’s bravery and quick thinking likely saved his father’s life on Sunday evening when a large black bear attacked his dad while they were walking through the woods. The bear was shot by the quick-thinking boy, ending the attack and ensuring the man’s survival.
DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the incident occurred around 5:30 pm in a heavily wooded area near the Wisconsin Dells. The father-son duo had gone on a walk together to enjoy the outdoors, unaware that a massive black bear was lurking nearby. The bear, estimated to be around 400-500 pounds, suddenly appeared from the underbrush and attacked the father, severely biting and clawing his leg and arm.
Witnesses describe the terrifying scene: "It was like nothing I’ve ever seen before. The boy and his father were just standing there, and then out of nowhere, this giant bear just appeared and attacked his dad. I saw the boy pull out his shotgun and shoot the bear. It was incredible," said one eyewitness.
WITNESS STATEMENT
The 12-year-old boy, whose identity has not been released due to his age, managed to retrieve his shotgun and calmly shoot the bear at point-blank range. "He was really shaking and scared, but he was focused on getting away from the bear and stopping the attack," said an investigating officer.
HOSPITAL UPDATE
The 35-year-old father is currently receiving treatment at St. Clare Hospital in Weston, Wisconsin, and is listed in stable condition. Doctors report that his injuries are severe but treatable, and he is expected to make a full recovery.
