Riot Games’ Latest Update Reveals Fizz’s Skill Selection Animations are Inspired by Typical Cat Behaviors!
In a surprising twist, the developers at Riot Games have confirmed that Fizz’s skill selection animations in League of Legends are actually references to typical cat behaviors! This unexpected reveal has sent shockwaves throughout the LoL community, leaving fans and players alike scratching their heads in amazement.
According to an interview with the game’s designers, the animations were inspired by the unique quirks and mannerisms of our feline friends. For example, Fizz’s "Playful" animation, which sees him batting at his opponents with his staff, is directly inspired by the way cats playfully swat at toys or strings.
But that’s not all – Fizz’s "Curious" animation, which has him sniffing around his surroundings, is said to be a nod to the way cats use their sense of smell to explore their environment. And let’s not forget his "Mischievous" animation, which sees him slinking around the battlefield with a sly grin on his face – a clear reference to the way cats often exhibit mischievous behavior when they’re getting into trouble.
This unexpected revelation has sent the LoL community into a frenzy, with fans and players alike taking to social media to share their reactions and theories about the inspiration behind Fizz’s animations.

Fade's design is directly linked to the culture and aspects of cats in Turkey. Cats are seen by some people as "sacred". Fade's heterochromia is also a reference to felines, to "odd-eyed cats", a phenotype that can be seen in some cats.
The design artists in the article about the creation of the Fade emphasize how the symbols present in the skills are cats, the Prowler is just two cats cut in half and then put together, forming a mouth and the 'Nightmare' (Ultimate) is kind of a big cat.
However, analyzing the skill selection animation, you can also notice references to feline behaviors. Perhaps they go unnoticed by some, but analyzing each one:
- Prowler (C): By pressing "C", Fade scratches her own arm and "pulls" the Prowler from the "inside out". This resembles the behavior of cats scratching things, scratching themselves, licking their paws or scratching (and even breaking) those usual scratching toys.
- Seize (Q): The shape of the skill resembles a "rubber ball", including the noise made when pulling the tip of the skill, so much so that the skill "sticks" opponents to an area. Balls with snacks inside or with scent are common toys for cats and throwing Seize seems similar to this type of "game" of throwing the ball for the feline, not to mention the cats' habit of hunting for the balls.
- Haunt (E): When selecting the skill, Fade "forms" the Haunt by winding, turning or rotating his hands, which is reminiscent of the habit of winding a ball of wool, both by cats and their owners. The texture of Haunt is also different from Seize, giving the impression of being much "finer" and a bit "plush". When spotting someone too, it forms a line of "threads", which is similar to the unraveling of a ball of wool when pulled or rolled too much by cats.
- Nightmare (X): Not much to see here, but considering 'Nightmare' as the same huge cat, at least in shape, the position of the arms and then the 'launch' of the skill, it is a bit reminiscent of a cat's "pounce", an "feline attack". This can best be seen in Fade's model, when she leans forward with her mouth open after shouting, reminiscent of the offensive position of a domestic cat.
The position after ulting can be seen more or less in sketch 1
Besides, there's no secret, the rest of the design is pretty self-explanatory considering all the DEVS exposition. Furthermore, it's worth adding how the zipper on Fade's jacket looks a lot like a cat necklace pendant, but that's not even about the skill anymore, it's about the clothes, so it's not worth breaking that down, but honestly, Fade design is one of the coolest made so far, I think it looks cool and the references to Turkish culture and cats are not "too in your face", but cool and "discreet".
I love it I love all Fade posts. i especially love that she also has cat paw prints under her boots.
