Riot’s Decision to Remove Arena Mode Leaves Fans Devastated: Will We See a Permanent Return?

Riot Games, the developer behind the popular multiplayer online battle arena game League of Legends, has announced that they will be removing the popular Arena mode from the game’s rotation. The decision has left fans of the mode devastated, with many calling for a permanent return of the game mode.

Petition to Bring Back Arena Mode

Fans are taking to social media to express their disappointment and frustration with the decision, with many calling for a permanent return of the Arena mode. A petition has been started on Change.org, calling on Riot to bring back the mode permanently. The petition has already gained thousands of signatures and is continuing to grow.

"We, the undersigned, urge Riot Games to reconsider their decision to remove Arena mode from the game’s rotation," the petition reads. "Arena mode is a beloved part of the League of Legends community and its removal will be a significant loss for fans. We believe that it would be beneficial for the community to have a permanent mode that can be played at any time, and we urge Riot to consider this when making future decisions about the game."

Reasons to Bring Back Arena Mode

So, why should Riot bring back Arena mode? Here are just a few reasons:

  1. Community Demand: The majority of the League of Legends community loves playing Arena mode, and its removal has left many fans feeling disappointed and frustrated.
  2. Unique Gameplay: Arena mode offers a unique and exciting gameplay experience that is different from the standard 5v5 mode. Its removal has left fans with limited options for competitive play.
  3. Competitive Play: Arena mode provides a competitive platform for fans to test their skills and compete against each other. Its removal has left many fans without a competitive outlet.

Riot’s Response

Riot Games has not commented on the petition or the decision to remove Arena mode, but fans are hopeful that the developer will reconsider their decision in the future.

"We appreciate the passion and dedication of our fans, and we will continue to monitor feedback and adjust our decisions accordingly," a Riot spokesperson said in a statement.

Conclusion

The decision to remove Arena mode from League of Legends has left fans devastated, but there is still hope that the mode will return in the future. A petition has been started to bring back the mode permanently, and fans are calling on Riot to reconsider their decision. Whether or not the mode will return remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the League of Legends community will not forget about Arena mode anytime soon.

To say the news was a devastating blow is a massive understatement. I (& I assume many others) will simply not be playing League anymore without Arena, & the whole player dropoff issues Riot stated could've EASILY been avoided if they took more aggressive action to fix/remove shit (Koi Pond, Jhin Cameo, the extreme RNG, etc). Plus from the looks of things they apparently WILL be fixing at least the majority of said issues next round of Arena, so what the fuck makes Riot so seemingly firm on this decision?

At this point I think we're all desperate to make Riot change their mind in some way, but does it stop at just a petition? Is there anything else we can do to increase the likelihood of making Arena Permanent?

  1. Riot only really cares about SR.

It took years to get Howling Abyss and a permanent ARAM map (which I’m sure they regret doing, as it likely hurts SR #’s slightly).

It was a fool’s wish to think that Riot ever had any real interest in introducing another permanent game mode. They will always sabotage said game mode to create data that supports their “player base fall-off” issues that they always claim. We saw the same shit with Nexus Blitz, which they intentionally made little changes to and destroyed with a plethora of garbage changes.

We also saw these issues with Dominion and Twisted Treeline before that, with the game modes being abandoned and left to rot until eventually, players stopped playing those as well. This is where we got our first taste of the manufactured “player base fall-off.”

It’s also why Riot refuses to give us proper custom game settings, as they are terrified of a custom game being better/more popular than the slop they release to us on their main game (as they saw with the original creation of DOTA on WC3 custom maps/mods).

  2. Nope. Big game studios like Riot hardly ever take risks, instead opting to hit the big money button of same old, same old. Making Arena was itself a risk I’m surprised Riot took. Support indie devs instead.

  3. I think Arena fits better as a rotating game mode. Arena relies heavily on novelty and requires a lot of personnel to keep the mode running. The dev article made it clear that the number of players does not justify the resources required. Riot is likely aware that a large number of Arena players will drop league, but it won’t be enough to make them care. I’m glad that Arena’s going to RGM because it gives the modes team more time to fix it. It also means more resources will go to ARAM which kinda needs it rn.

  4. When they killed twisted treeline, they said “we don’t want to split the playerbase.” Then they added ARAMs and TFT. I think we should expect nothing; then at least maybe we’ll be pleasantly surprised. Their goals are not our goals. They’re a business whose income depends on pro (summoner’s rift) play, and to a degree, skins. LoL is not for the people
