Sioux City Community School District Superintendent Announces Retirement Plans for Next Year
Sioux City, IA – In a surprise move, Sioux City Community School District Superintendent, Dr. Paul Gausman, has announced that he will be retiring from his position effective July 1, 2023.
Gausman, who has been serving as the district’s superintendent since 2015, made the announcement during a special meeting of the school board on Tuesday evening. The news comes as a shock to many in the community, as Gausman has been a vocal advocate for education and has played a key role in shaping the district’s policies and initiatives.
"I am proud of the progress we have made as a district, and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve the students, families, and staff of Sioux City," Gausman said in a statement. "However, I feel that it is time for me to step aside and allow someone else to take the reins and continue the important work of educating our children."
Gausman’s retirement marks the end of an era for the district, which has undergone significant changes during his tenure. Under his leadership, the district has implemented a number of initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes, including the introduction of new curriculum standards and the expansion of early childhood education programs.
The search for Gausman’s replacement is expected to begin in the coming weeks, with the school board aiming to appoint a new superintendent by the summer of 2023.
