PRE-GAME THREAD 03: Capitals at Devils

The wait is finally over! The Washington Capitals are set to take on the New Jersey Devils in the third pre-season game of the 2024-2025 NHL season. The puck drops at 7:00 PM ET at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
LINEUP SHUFFLE
Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette has made some changes to the lineup, giving some of the younger players a chance to shine. Rookie forward Connor McMichael will make his pre-season debut, replacing the injured Evgeny Kuznetsov. Defenseman Martin Fehervary will also get a chance to prove himself, replacing the injured Dmitry Orlov.
DEVILS LOOKING FOR REDEMPTION
The Devils are looking to bounce back from a tough 4-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers in their last pre-season game. They’ll be relying on their top players, including Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes, to lead the charge.
CAPITALS SEEKING SECOND WIN
The Capitals are looking to build on their 3-2 win over the New York Rangers in their last pre-season game. They’ll be relying on their top players, including Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom, to lead the charge.
KEY MATCHUPS
- Alex Ovechkin vs. Damon Severson: Ovechkin will be looking to continue his dominance against the Devils, while Severson will be looking to shut him down.
- Nicklas Backstrom vs. Nico Hischier: Backstrom will be looking to control the pace of the game, while Hischier will be looking to create scoring chances for the Devils.
- Martin Fehervary vs. Jack Hughes: Fehervary will be looking to prove himself against one of the top young players in the league.
PREDICTION
