Hey Capsuleers,
I’ve been feeling nostalgic lately and wanted to spark a discussion about what many of us consider the “classic” era of EVE Online. Remember the days when the game was simpler, yet so engaging? Let’s dive into some statistics and memories from that time.
The Golden Era:
- Peak Popularity: Back in January 2011, EVE Online hit a peak of 63,170 concurrent users1. This was a time when the game felt alive and bustling with activity.
- Expansions: The expansions during this period, such as “Incursion” (released in November 2010), brought significant changes and kept the community engaged2.
- Player Base: EVE Online had over 360,000 subscribers around this time1.
Is It Still Classic?
- Current Player Trends: While the game has evolved, some players argue that the essence of EVE’s classic era is still present. However, recent statistics show a decline in daily active users3.
- Recent Expansions: The latest expansions continue to add new content and features, but do they capture the magic of the classic days? The 2024 roadmap promises exciting updates, but only time will tell if they resonate with the community4.
Your Thoughts:
- What do you miss most about the classic era of EVE Online?
- Do you think the game has improved or lost its charm over the years?
- Do you think CCP could run a classic server like OSRS for example
Fly safe o7
Classic era for me would be 2005-2006. I miss when people just flew shit for fun and weren’t trying to min/max PVP as hard.
classic is like pre-2008
peak is like pre 2012/2013
what really fucked the game fundamentally that caused the massive exodus in eve players was phoebe, the jump fatigue patch. so many OGs simply stopped playing and the playerbase collapsed because of it
This was and still is the best Era of EVE Online, I know I was there, I lived it.
While I would love to go back to a “better” times, the fact that people and the way they play has changed aswell, it wouldn’t be the same.
Keep your memories and enjoy the warm feelings. It will not return. <3
