Rescue Efforts Underway
Rescue teams from the Indian Army, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are working tirelessly to evacuate those stranded and provide aid to affected areas. The Indian Air Force has also been deployed to assist in the rescue efforts.
Casualties and Damage
According to official reports, at least 20 people have been killed, with many more feared dead. Over 1,000 people have been rescued so far, with many more still stranded. The damage to infrastructure and property is estimated to be in the hundreds of crores.
Causes of the Disaster
Experts say that the disaster was caused by a combination of factors, including heavy rainfall, landslides, and the failure of a dam in the region. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the region, warning of further heavy rainfall and flash floods.
