I‘m wondering if anyone else would get involved in this situation or if they would just mind their business.
Backstory:I have a very close family friend 38 F who is the laziest, most entitled free loader you’ve ever seen in your life. She‘s basically been unemployed for the last decade (works a few hours here and there) has 2 kids, and relies heavily on welfare and basically has had a perpetual GoFundMe for years for various reasons (funeral expenses, needing a vacation, needing another vacation, wanting people to help pay for her mortgage payment, wanting to go on vacation again, lying and saying she had her hours cut at work, wanting money for Christmas… and the list goes on). She’s a very convincing liar and extremely good at convincing people she’s a victim and an amazing person even though she wouldn’t piss on you if you were on fire. She’s never once helped ANYONE else but EXPECTS everyone to help her at all times and never thanks anyone for the help or shows any appreciation unless she thinks it will help her get more money/support. She’s generally just a horrible, self Centered person that will do absolutely anything for attention and take other people’s hard earned money.
Fast forward to today, she recently found out that she has a moderate heart valve issue which will be replaced and is Using this situation as her whole personality and sees this as an indefinite attention vending machine and meal ticket. She’s posted all over social media begging for money for medical expenses, which is a complete lie. There will be no medical expenses due to her having insurance (everything is paid for). She’s saying she is unable to do any daily activities or cook bc it‘s too strenuous (lie, she is able to continue normal activity), so she is begging people to bring her meals every day and making people push her around in a wheelchair with a gofundme link taped on the back at crowded events. She’s now implying that she will not be able to return to work (which is also a lie, the doctors said after her short recovery time, she will be back to 100%). all in all, she‘s attempting to get over $35k via multiple fundraising sources for her “surgery”. She has alienated family and friends by consistently taking advantage of them and showing nothing but an entitled attitude over the years. However, all these new people hearing her story are completely unaware of her scams and people continue to give her money believing she is in desperate need when in reality she’s just using their money on frivolous spending.
For A little more context, many years ago her newborn passed away and she started a GoFundMe “for the funeral.” she raised thousands of dollars as people deeply sympathized with this tragedy. Little did everyone know that a non profit organization paid the complete bill. She continued to lie to people and say she was in debt from the funeral thinking that no one would find out. In the meantime, she bought clothes, vacations, tattoos, home goods and more with the money meant for the funeral. For years She used this tragedy to get more and more money from people using their sympathy against them.
My question is, is there anything is should do? I’m so sick of watching this narcissist take advantage of unsuspecting people. She’s trying to get on the news now to get more money and the whole situation makes me sick. She has already raised more than enough money to let her live comfortably for well over the recovery time but she of course wants MORE. What would you guys do?
