Justin Timberlake’s lawyer is speaking out following the singer’s DWI arrest on Tuesday morning in New York.
In a statement to KTLA 5, attorney Edward Burke Jr. said he looks “forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake on these allegations.”
“I will have a lot to say at the appropriate time but am currently awaiting full discovery from the District Attorney’s office,” he said.
Timberlake was charged on Tuesday for driving while intoxicated in Sag Harbor, New York. Police say he ran a stop sign and veered out of his lane.
Court documents state Timberlake was driving a 2025 BMW when he was stopped by police at around 12:35 a.m.
“His eyes were bloodshot and glassy, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage was emanating from his breath, he was unable to divide attention, he had slowed speech, he was unsteady afoot and he performed poorly on all standardized field sobriety tests,” the court papers said.
Timberlake, 43, told the officer he had one martini and was following some friends home, according to the documents. He was reportedly headed to the home after dining at the American Hotel, a hot spot in the area.
After being arrested and taken to a police station in nearby East Hampton, he refused a breath test, said the court papers, which listed his occupation as “professional” and said he’s “self-employed.”
The “Suit & Tie” singer appeared in court hours later, where he was arraigned and released without bond. He was charged with a driving-while-intoxicated misdemeanor.
The Suffolk County District Attorney’s office said Timberlake’s next court date is July 26. However, he won’t be required to appear in person. That works out for the singer’s schedule as he’s currently on tour.
Timberlake kicked off his The Forget Tomorrow World Tour in April.
His arrest comes days before he’s set to hit the stage of Chicago’s United Center on June 21 and 22. He’ll be back in New York for tour dates on June 25 and 26.
