HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — The Florida Department of Health in Hillsborough County has confirmed one case of locally acquired dengue fever caused by a mosquito bite.

Officials are conducting aerial spraying as a prevention effort and are reminding residents to report dead birds to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and to take precautions around mosquitos.


The DOH is conducting statewide surveillance for mosquito-borne illnesses such as West Nile virus infections, malaria, dengue, and others.
