TECHNOLOGY. AND NOW TO THIS A BIBLE BOMBSHELL FROM THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. TODAY. STATE SUPERINTENDENT RYAN WALTER SAYS PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE NOW REQUIRED TO TEACH FROM THE BIBLE. KOCO KYLIE THOMAS WAS AT THE STATE BOARD’S MEETING FOR THAT ANNOUNCEMENT TODAY. KYLIE. THIS ONE’S ALREADY BEEN TALKING HERE. I KNOW IT’S BEEN MAKING ATTENTION, GETTING ATTENTION FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY. YEAH. TODAY, STATE SUPERINTENDENT RYAN WALTERS ANNOUNCED EVERY SCHOOL IN OKLAHOMA IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A BIBLE IN THE CLASSROOM AND TEACH FROM IT. STARTING IMMEDIATELY. IN AN EMAIL SENT TO OKLAHOMA SUPERINTENDENTS. WALTER INSTRUCTED THEM TO IMMEDIATELY INCORPORATE THE BIBLE AND THE TEN COMMANDMENTS AS INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TO THE CURRICULUM. WALTERS ARGUED IT’S NECESSARY FOR STUDENTS TO UNDERSTAND THE BIBLE AS A HISTORICAL DOCUMENT AND ITS ROLE IN THE FOUNDATION OF OUR COUNTRY. WHILE THE LETTER STATED THIS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED FOR GRADES FIVE AND UP TODAY, WALTERS SAID THIS WILL BE ENFORCED IN EVERY CLASSROOM WHEN THE STANDARDS ARE APPLICABLE. WE ARE GOING TO BE VERY EXPLICIT THAT THAT MEANS TEACHING STORIES FROM THE BIBLE IN GRADE LEVELS. THAT MEANS TEACHING ITS INFLUENCE ON AMERICAN HISTORY. IT WILL ALL BE IN A HISTORICAL CONTEXT. IT IS ACADEMIC MALPRACTICE NOT TO BE TEACHING THE BIBLE’S INFLUENCE ON AMERICAN HISTORY. NOW, TODAY, I ASKED A OKLAHOMA ATTORNEY GENERAL, GENTNER DRUMMOND, IF THIS MOVE IS LEGAL. HE SAYS YES, HE SAYS OKLAHOMA STATE LAW ALLOWS FOR THE BIBLES TO BE IN THE CLASSROOM AND FOR TEACHERS TO USE THEM. BUT HE DID NOT COMMENT ON WHETHER IT’S LEGAL FOR TEACHERS TO REQUIRE THEM IN THE CLASSROOM.
