Prime Video won’t be headed back to Outer Range.

The Amazon-owned streamer has canceled the series, which featured a blend of western and sci-fi storytelling, after two seasons. The news comes not quite two months after the show’s second season premiered with a binge release.

Outer Range stars Josh Brolin as a Wyoming rancher who discovers a mysterious black void on his property, while also fighting to keep his land out of the hands of a rival family with whom he has a long-standing feud. mogen Poots, Lili Taylor, Tamara Podemski, Lewis Pullman, Tom Pelphrey, Noah Reid, Shaun Sipos, Isabel Arraiza, Olive Abercrombie and Will Patton also star.

Outer Range premiered on Prime Video in April 2022 and scored a season two pickup in October of that year. The series also changed showrunners at that time, with Charles Murray taking over for Zev Borow.

Though not at the level of top Prime Video shows like Fallout and Reacher, Outer Range performed reasonably well for the streamer. Its first season spent five weeks in Nielsen’s rankings of the top 10 original streaming series, and season two has three weeks on the chart as of June 2 (the most recent week of available data).

Amazon MGM Studios and Plan B Entertainment produced the series. Murray executive produced season two with Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner and Ernest McNealey of Plan B, Brolin, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae and Jon Paré.
